How to Regrip Your Golf Clubs: A Step-by-Step Guide
Re-gripping your golf clubs is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your game — yet most golfers leave it too long. Worn grips cause tension, inconsistent grip pressure, and loss of control. The good news? Regripping at home is easier than you think, and with Feel Grips reverse-taper technology, the results can be even better.
Watch our step-by-step video guide below, then follow along with the written instructions.
What You'll Need
- New golf grips
- Grip tape (double-sided)
- Grip solvent
- A vice or grip clamp
- A hook blade or utility knife
- A towel
Step 1: Remove the Old Grip
Make sure your club is held securely; a vice is best. Using a hook blade, carefully cut along the length of the old grip from top to bottom. Peel it away and remove any old tape from the shaft. (See video for top tip) Make sure the shaft is clean and dry before proceeding.
Step 2: Apply New Grip Tape
Wrap double-sided grip tape around the shaft, starting just below the top of the shaft and working down to the length of your new grip. Overlap slightly for even coverage.
Step 3: Apply Solvent
Pour grip solvent directly inside the new Feel Grips grip, then place your thumb over the open end and shake it well to spread the solvent evenly around the inside. This will help to activate the grip tape and gives you a short window to slide and position the grip correctly.. Then pour grip solvent out of the grip over the tape prevously applied (Step 2) on the club shaft. Work fast — solvent dries quickly.
Step 4: Slide the Grip On
With the grip opening facing down, slide it onto the shaft in one smooth motion. Align the grip logo or reminder rib to your preferred position. You have about 30–60 seconds to adjust before the solvent sets....so work quickly but calmly.
Step 5: Let It Dry
Leave the clubs horizontal for at least 4–6 hours before playing. Avoid gripping or twisting the grips while they cure. Resist the temptation to test it early — letting it cure fully ensures a secure, long-lasting fit.
Why Reverse-Taper Grips Make a Difference
Standard grips are thicker at the top and taper down toward the fingers — which can promote too much hand action through the swing. Feel Grips reverse-taper design does the opposite: a slimmer upper hand section encourages lighter grip pressure and a more connected, consistent swing.
Once you've regripped, you'll notice the difference from your very first round.
